How we became a Certified B Corporation® - Childs Farm

How we became a Certified B Corporation®

Becoming a Certified B Corporation® was no easy task and took years of careful planning and work from everyone across Childs Farm.

Now, you're probably wondering what exactly a B Corp™ is and what we had to do to get certified.

Well, we're glad you asked. We simply removed the two E’s from the word BEE and bingo.

Ok, bee jokes aside...

B Corp™ certification is the world’s leading measure of how consciously a business makes its products, treats its people, chooses its suppliers, governs its actions, respects its community, and helps the environment.

We took the following steps to start our B Corp™ journey:

Step 1: Impact Assessment

This looked at every area of Childs Farm’s business and reviewed our social and environmental impact.

It was divided into 5 key areas:

Our Governance – evaluating Childs Farms overall mission and engagement around our social and environmental impact, ethics and transparency

This includes having a formal mission statement and integration of our social and environmental performance into our decision making

Our workers - assessing how Childs Farm contributes to employees’ financial security, health & safety, wellness, career development, and engagement & satisfaction.

We provide training and professional development opportunities to all our employees. We ensure all employees are paid fair wages and bonuses. We also have a wide range of health and wellness initiatives such as our employee assistance programme and our menopause policy to support our teams.

Our Community - evaluating how Childs Farm engages with and impacts the communities in which we operate including diversity, equity & inclusion, economic impact, civic engagement, charitable giving, and our supply chain management.

We have a wide range of community engagements including our charity partnerships with Riding for the Disabled Association and Surfers Against Sewage

Our Environment - assessing Childs Farm’s management and impact on the environment including our impact on the air, climate, water, land, and biodiversity. As well as looking at our direct impact we also assess the impact within our supply chain

We are proud to be Carbon Neutral Plus certified and using recycled & recyclable materials within our packaging such as our Prevented Ocean Plastic Bottles

Our Customers – ensuring Childs Farm delivers quality products that have a positive impact on our customers and consumers

We believe that everyone should feel happy in their skin and have a Happy Skin Promise so you can trust we have done our very best to ensure every product we sell is designed specifically for you and your little ones. We have a dedicated customer care team who are always here to help you with any questions you may have.

To become B Corp certified we had to gain a minimum of 80 points on this detailed impact assessment

We submitted our assessment for review by B Lab to see if we had made it.

Step 2: Evaluation by B Lab

B Lab (the company responsible for certifying B Corporations) then completed initial background checks to make sure we were eligible for certification and moved us onto the next verification step.

Step 3: Verification process

A B Lab analyst reviewed Childs Farm impact assessment in detail and made sure we had provided all the necessary supporting evidence to verify our assessment.

We ended the verification process with 80.7 points – above the required 80 points, which means we are now certified.

Step 4: To continue our journey…

This is an amazing achievement, but we know that there is always more we can do to improve our social and environmental impact.

We will undergo a re-certification process every 3 years and will continue to make improvements, so watch this space!
