General product information

Can I use Childs Farm if I have eczema?

All Childs Farm products are clinically tested and user trialled on babies and children with eczema prone skin. All our products are paediatrician and dermatologist approved as being suitable for sensitive skin and also safe for people who may be prone to eczema. For more information on our clinical trials please refer to 'What is Clinical Testing?'.

Is Childs Farm suitable for newborn babies?

All Childs Farm products are suitable for newborns and upwards, except for:
- Suncare – Babies younger than 6 months should never be in direct sunlight, following NHS guidance.
- Pillow spray and pillow mist- Not suitable for little ones under 6 months old to avoid potential inhalation of spray/mist whilst lungs are developing.

Can I use Childs Farm if I’m pregnant?

Absolutely, all Childs Farm products are safe for pregnant women to use.

All of our products undergo rigorous safety testing and review, which includes use during pregnancy. If there was any concern around using one of our products during pregnancy, we would be required to include a warning on our labelling detailing this. This is not the case for any of our products, so please enjoy.

Can I use Childs Farm as an adult?

Our products are specifically developed for young skin, which is typically more sensitive to harsh products as the skin layers are still developing up until puberty. Due to the gentle make-up of the products, many adults use the products particularly if they also have sensitive skin.

Is Childs Farm sustainable?

Sustainability is one of our core values, it's in our DNA.

Our bottles, caps and lotion pumps are all recyclable. The bottles can be rinsed out, the cap or pump replaced and placed together in your recycling bin at home.

Our bottles are made from 100% Prevented Ocean Plastic, which is plastic collected near rivers and coastal areas to prevent it from reaching the ocean. You can learn more about prevented ocean plastic here: https://www.preventedoceanplastic.com/

Our tubes are made of 70% PCR HDPE and can be recycled along with their caps. Please cut the top of the tube and rinse, then place in your recycling bin at home.

We only use card and paper that is recycled or from an approved FSC source, and we have removed all plastic windows from our gift packs.
You can learn more about our sustainable packaging on our website: https://www.childsfarm.com/pages/sustainable-packaging

Is Childs Farm cruelty free?

We're extremely proud to be to be a cruelty-free brand. All of our cosmetic and personal care products are approved under the Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny Programme, the internationally recognisable gold standard for cruelty free products. We proactively monitor our suppliers to ensure that our products continue to adhere to Leaping Bunny criteria. Our supplier monitoring system is also independently audited.

How do I patch test?

All our products are formulated to be safe and extremely gentle. However, as a common-sense precaution, we recommend a patch test be carried out at least 24 hours prior to first use. Two of the best places to test are inside the upper arm and behind the ear. Dab a small amount of product into one of these areas and after 24hrs check back to see if any irritation has occurred. Don’t patch test on skin that is already irritated, as this won’t give an accurate reading.

What is Clinical Testing?

As parents ourselves, we want to be sure that the claims we make on our packaging can be 100% trusted. At Childs Farm we go the extra mile to give the reassurance that parents/caregivers are looking for when it comes to caring for children’s skin. All our products undergo extensive clinical testing and controlled user trials above and beyond EU guidelines and regulations for the cosmetics and toiletries industry. For more information on our clinical trials please refer to 'What is a Clinical Safety Test'.

What is Childs Farm’s suncream UVA start rating?

Our UVA star rating according to the Boots system is 3 which is a good level of protection and meets the EU/UK requirements for UVA protection. As far as we know, all sunscreens that are suitable for sensitive and also eczema-prone skin have achieved a 3* rating, as it is has not been possible to achieve a 5* rating using ingredients that are suitable for sensitive skin and also safe for people who may be prone to eczema.

The UVA star rating system was developed by Boots, it is not an EU requirement to have a UVA star rating. The UVA star rating system is just a measure of the ratio of UVA protection vs. UVB protection, so if a product has a low SPF it may still have a high level of stars, not because it is providing lots of UVA protection, but because the ratio between the UVA and UVB protection is about the same.

It is important to look for a sunscreen that filters both UVA and UVB rays (broad spectrum), but particularly with a high SPF to block UVB rays that cause sunburn. Sunscreens with SPF 50 protect against 98% of UVB rays, whereas SPF 15 sunscreens only filters 93% of UVB rays.

How often should I apply Childs Farm suncream?

Shake well before use. Apply generously before sun exposure and rub in well. Wait for the sunscreen to be fully absorbed. Reapply frequently every 1-2 hours, and always after perspiring, swimming or towelling as a reduced quantity will lower the level of protection significantly.

Avoid intense midday sun. Over exposure to the sun is a serious health threat.

Keep babies and young children out of direct sunlight and make sure they wear protective clothing and high SPF sunscreens (higher than SPF 25). Do not stay too long in the sun, even when using a sunscreen product. Sunburn damages the skin permanently and should be avoided.

Even sunscreens with high sun protection factors do not provide 100% protection from UV radiation. Although this product has been tested, consumer’s individual reactions to the product cannot be excluded.

Avoid contact with eyes, rinse well with clean water if this occurs. Avoid contact with clothing, fabrics and surfaces. Permanent staining or material changes are possible even after the product has fully absorbed.

Ingredients

Are Childs Farm products vegan?

All our products* are registered with The Vegan Society who have a set of strict and rigorous guidelines that must be followed for every ingredient that we use. We want to go one step further than just saying we use vegan ingredients, and assure you that our whole supply chain is vegan certified. That's why you can trust that when you see The Vegan Society Logo on pack we are committed to giving you a truly vegan product!

*Our grapefruit & tea tree detangler and strawberry & mint conditioner previously contained a honey derivative but we’re very excited to say that this has now been removed so it is now certified as Vegan by The Vegan Society. Please keep an eye out on pack for the vegan logo.

Are Childs Farm products natural?

At Childs Farm we have a big focus on using natural and naturally derived ingredients. Naturally derived means that they are obtained from plants but passed through 1 or more processing steps and natural ingredients are extracted directly from plants or animal products as opposed to being produced synthetically.
Childs Farm products contain as a minimum 92% of naturally derived ingredients measured against an internationally recognised standard.

What fragrances do Childs Farm use?

Many of our products contain a range of fruity fragrances. Fragrances are unique to each product and each individual fragrance is created by a perfumer who has been trained to recognise over 2,500 different smells. For cosmetics, fragrances are listed as ‘Parfum’ on the ingredients list. This can be naturally derived, synthetically derived or a combination of both.

To help give customers, particularly those with allergies, the transparency they need to pick products that are suitable for their skin, some fragrance ingredients which are allergens must be listed on pack if they are present. As such, 26 ingredients that have recognised potential to cause allergy must be listed on the ingredients for a product if they contain them above a certain level. This helps customers to make sure they are picking products that are most suitable for their skin.

If you have a specific allergy to one of the fragrance allergens, please let us know at enquiries@childsfarm.com and we will be able to provide a list of products that contain these. Products and ingredients may change over time. We recommend checking the label before purchasing and using any product.

Is Childs Farm gluten free?

Gluten is a known food allergen, and we do not test any of our finished products specifically for gluten. We do use some ingredients that are derived from wheat and have a risk of gluten, including colloidal oatmeal, tocopherol and hydrolysed wheat protein. Not all of our products contain these ingredients, however we cannot rule out the possibility of cross-contamination as the products are produced on a site that may also handle wheat/gluten.

Our customer services team at enquiries@childsfarm.com are more than happy to help you if you would like to know abot whether specific products contain gluten. As there is a risk of cross-contamination we recommend path testing any products 24 hours prior to use.

Is Childs Farm Halal?

Our products are not halal certified. There are certification schemes and manufacturing processes that need to be adhered to be a halal certified product which we have not completed for our range. Please let us know for any further information required on the ingredients in the product that we can help with, such as alcohol.

Do Childs Farm Products contain Nuts and Seeds?

Our products do not contain any of the following common nuts - peanuts, walnuts, brazil nuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pecan, cashews and pistachios. However, some of our products do contain other nuts such as coconut or shea nut butter. Our products do not contain any seeds although we do use some seed oils, including sunflower seed oil.

Whilst our every care is taken in the manufacture of our products, we cannot rule out the possibility of cross-contamination as the products are produced on a site that may also handle nuts and seeds. We recommend a patch test be carried out at least 24 hours prior to first use of a new product.
